Life Beyond Earth? Underwater Caves In Bahamas Could Give Clues

Texas A&M University:
Discoveries made in some underwater caves by Texas &M University at Galveston researchers in the Bahamas could provide clues about how ocean life formed on Earth millions of years ago, and perhaps give hints of what types of marine life could be found on distant planets and moons.
Tom Iliffe, professor of marine biology at the Texas A&M-Galveston campus, and graduate student Brett Gonzalez of Trabuco Canyon, Calif., examined three "blue holes" in the Bahamas and found that layers of bacterial microbes exists in all three, but each cave had specialized forms of such life and at different depths, suggesting that microbial life in such caves...

at the Haynes Library, Governor’s Harbour
Al is a PADI scuba diving instructor who enjoys underwater photography, especially given the clear water and abundant marine life in the Eleuthera area and he has been scuba diving since he was 16.

Al has been living in Eleuthera for over four years and owns Ocean Fox Cotton Bay at Davis Harbour Marina on the South end of Eleuthera, providing an amazing opportunity for Al to dive frequently and do lots of photography

We are poised as an organisation in 2012 to continue to make a difference in the lives of our people here on Eleuthera. Your input and effort is needed however to make an even greater impact. We are continuously seeking to educate our people here on Eleuthera to make better choices and decisions concerning our health.

Bahamian Poet wins prestigious small axe literary prize

Bahamian poet, writer and publisher, Sonia Farmer can now add winner of the poetry component of the 2011 Small Axe Literary Competition to her list of achievements.
Small Axe is a Caribbean art and literature journal out of Columbia University in New York and the competition is held every year.
“It’s a pretty big deal for Caribbean writers,” said Farmer.
A humble poet and writer, Farmer is deeply entrenched in the Bahamian art and culture scene.

Haynes Library Calendar 2012



The Haynes Library calendar is made up of photos that the kids took at a digital camera workshop in Summer Programme 2011. The workshop was led by Jackie Miller.
The pictures have also been blown up to 16x20 and matted and framed and will be seen at an upcoming exhibition.
