Cancer Society Walkathon

Dear Friends,
 
As you may know, cancer is one of the leading causes of death on Eleuthera.  Breast, prostate, colon, stomach and pancreatic are recent diagnosis that have affected the lives of many of our residents.  Currently we have been experiencing an increase in the number of individuals seeking support for treatment, due in part to the depressed economy, no medical insurance, and in some cases, multiple family members seeking medical attention and treatment, high cost of medical care and treatment and no specialized care facilities on Eleuthera.
 
We feel this is a very strategic opportunity for you to partner with us at this time to raise awareness regarding the disease of cancer and also to provide an avenue to render much needed assistance.  As you may already be aware, the Cancer Society prides itself on being an advocate to those whose lives have been touched by cancer and we have a reputation of being accountable and prudent with funding obtained from the public.  Our aim is to raise $50,000 to offer up to 20 persons over a one year period, a maximum of $2,500 in assistance to travel to Nassau to receive medical attention. 
 
As a means of raising funds locally, annually we hold a T-Shirt Day (Friday, 28th October) and Walk-a-thon on Saturday, 29th October, 2011 at 6:30 a.m.  Our walk begins at our headquarters in Palmetto Point and ends at Bayfront Park in Governor's Harbour. A $20 registration fee is charged and each participate is asked to assist with seeking sponsors.  After our walk-a-thon, a Souse Out is also planned to assist with our fundraising efforts.
 
We anticipate your partnership as we endeavour to raise the awareness of our citizens here on Eleuthera and to render assistance to as many persons as is practicable. T-shirts are available in vibrant colors ~ lime, yellow, irish green, pink, fuschia, light blue, royal blue, jade and white....don't be left out, sign up today!
